K1s NEWS FROM KOLPING TORONTO K1s

In southern Ontario we had the wettest summer on record, and the temperatures have been below normal for most of the time. Now we hope that the fall be a beautiful one.
Our Lenten Meal was supposed to be held on March 9th, but due to a bad snow storm we had to delay it one week to Sunday, March 16th. Our ladies again did a great job making their individual soups that were served with whole rye buns supplied by Joe Lang from his bakery. Attendance was great and the sizable amount of money collected was donated to Share Life. Thanks to all our ladies who worked so very hard to make this event a success.
Instead of our regular seniors meeting in the parish hall we cleaned the exterior grounds around our settlement house. Under the expert leadership of Karl Wicker and a sizable group of men and ladies we completed the job in time to attend the 12:00 noon holy mass. After mass we consumed our box lunches in the hall and later Werner Scheliga gave a talk, accompanied by many beautiful pictures about a trip he and Erika recently did to Australia and New Zealand. Thanks to Werner for this most interesting talk.
Mothers Day we celebrated during a special Komunion Breakfast where each mother was presented with a carnation. It was nice to see the mothers as well as the husbands and children all dressed up in their best and enjoying themselves.
The Seniors Outing on May 28th was to the Beaches Boardwalk. It was a cold and windy day and therefore the attendance was low, but the few hardy ones had a good time anyway.
On May 30th we buried our good friend and long time member, Toni Hegenauer. He had been in bad health for quite some time, but his passing came rather unexpected. Tony, we’ll all miss you!
The last event before the summer was our picnic at the Wensings place on June 22nd
Soon after the beginning of the picnic it started to rain and the whole gang was invited into the house. Fortunately the Wensings have a huge family room over the three-car garage and everybody was fitted in nicely. Thanks to Heinz and Mila for their generosity and hard work to make this picnic possible.
In the last week of July Father Eherer was transferred to a parish in Grand Prairie, Saskatchewan. He was pastor of the German parish as well as our Kolping Praeses. He speaks fluently German and we miss him very much. In the meantime we got a priest from Austria who is helping Father Hoeppe on Sundays on a temporary basis.
