Dear members of Kolping Canada!
Easter Message from the National Praeses of Kolping Canada
Dear members of Kolping Canada: During the seven weeks of Lent we prepare ourselves for Easter, the highest Feast of the Church calendar.
Lent has a double purpose. It helps the catechumens to prepare for celebrating their Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil of Easter Sunday. It also invites those who are already baptized to prepare, through penance and prayer, to renew their Baptismal vows and regain their state of grace for a fruitful reception of Holy Communion.
With Palm Sunday begins Holy Week. On Palm Sunday we remember in a solemn procession the triumphal Messianic entrance procession of Jesus into Jerusalem. At the Easter Tritium we hear the reading of the Passion, about the trial, which brought about Christ's suffering and death by crucifixion, for our redemption.
The Easter Vigil is the memorial of the Paschal Mystery. The Lord Jesus Christ redeemed the human race and gave perfect glory to God the Father. By dying, Christ destroyed our death; by rising, he restored our life. The Easter Tritium opens with the evening Mass of the Lord's Last Supper, reaches its climax in the Easter Vigil, and closes with Evening Prayer II on Easter Sunday.
Members of every Canadian Kolping Society should strive to participate fully in the Lenten and Easter Liturgy. Then they may call themselves faithful sons and daughters of Father Kolping.
