The Kolping Society of Winnipeg was founded in 1955 by young immigrant
men from Germany. The purpose at that time was to assist each other and newcomers
with the integration into Canadian life and to form friendships. The motto
of being a good Christian, good family man, a good worker, and a good citizen
changed with the initiation of women into the society. Historically, the
Kolping Society was formed to assist young men in their travels throughout
Europe and in accomplishing their trades.
Now, Kolping Winnipeg has in excess of 80 men and women members. Winnipeg is
no doubt the strongest society in Canada.
Most of us are retired now, however, some younger members are joining.
The Kolping Society operates out of the St. Joseph’s Parish. This parish
was initially a German parish and is still supported by the Kolping Society
and other German organizations.
Thing have changed in recent years. Members are aging and passing away. We have come to the point where our normal activities had to be reduced. We will still exist but there will be no more meetings.
